Following an obscene gesture made to the Camp Nou crowd in the aftermath of Sergio Ramos’ late leveller, Dani Carvajal has swiftly apologised for the incident on social media.
Responding to alleged abuse from the home support, the Real Madrid right-back lifted his middle finger to a section of the stadium in an act of unrestrained emotion.
Knowing that the gesture would be badly received by the majority of football fans in his homeland, particularly those on the receiving end, Carvajal took to Twitter to apologise unreservedly to those offended by the act.
“I would like to apologise for the gesture to a sector of the stand, responding to insults [received during the game],” he tweeted. “This is something that should not be done.”
