Chelsea negotiating James Rodriguez’s €70m departure from Real Madrid:Antonio Conte has turned his attention to the Colombian after accepting defeat in his attempts to sign Romelu Lukaku.

Everton had demanded £75m for the Belgian but Toffees boss Ronald Koeman confirmed the striker would be staying at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

And after hearing the news Conte has decided Rodriguez is the next best option.

The 25-year-old is down the pecking order at the Bernabeu with the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos the preferred options of Zinedine Zidane.


That alerted the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United earlier this summer, but it now appears Chelsea are chasing his signature.The reports claim Zidane is keen to sell Rodriguez in order to ]aise funds to complete a new signing of his own before the transfer window slams shut.

But Real president Florentino Perez is keen for the attacking midfielder to stay at the Bernabeu.

As well as looking at completing a surprise swoop for Rodriguez, Chelsea are still keen to add Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly to their ranks despite the Serie A side demanding £60m for a deal to be done.

The Blues have already had a £42m offer turned down for the 25-year-old.

Chelsea continued their winning start to the Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Watford on Saturday afternoon.

It was Diego Costa who once again scored a late winner for Conte’s side, although he was lucky to escape without a red card in the clash
