Keylor Navas didn’t have ton to do last night in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Wolfsburg but the Costa Rican’s serenity only made him a more potent force for the home side.
His vantage point allowed him to follow the game and pick up on trends that his teammates and the opposition were following. One such observation enticed him to run down to the Wolfsburg box right before Cristiano Ronaldo took a free-kick. The tie was level on aggregate and Ronaldo had a chance to put Madrid ahead.
A few words in his ear from Navas helped Ronaldo score and put Madrid in the semi-finals after overcoming a tough hurdle. Speaking about the chat after the game, the forward revealed what Navas told him: “He knows how I can hit the ball on free-kicks and he told me to hit it slowly and that’s what I did.”
