Real Madrid left back Marcelo is back in the Brazil squad after almost a year in the international wilderness.
We know what Marcelo adds. He might occasionally show some ‘poor’ (to put it mildly) defensive qualities but his overall quality as a footballer makes him one of the best around with him a player you would expect to be involved at international level.
But as he and Carlos Dunga didn’t see ‘eye to eye’ during Dunga’s second spell as Brazil coach Marcelo hadn’t been involved in international football with the Brazilians since October 2015.
He’s now back.
With Dunga now gone, and replaced by Tite, he wasted little time in bringing Marcelo back into the fold as the defender has been named him in the squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia, which take place next month.
Marcelo’s Real teammate Casemiro is also in this squad.
