Minutes after becoming the hero Real Madrid needed to upend Athletic Club’s stoic resistance, Alvaro Morata declared he’s happy coming off the bench as long as he scores and contributing in any way Zinedine Zidane deems fit.
The 24-year-old remarked that being labelled as a sub does not bother him.
“If I score every time I come in as a substitute, Im okay with it,” Morata said. “My job is to help the team succeed.
“It would be very selfish to put my personal aspirations ahead of the team.
“I always want to play but it is not easy here and I must accept the coach’s decisions.”
Given how hard a match it was, the ex-Juventus forward lauded Athletic’s performance at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
“It was a complicated match, they are a great team that are very hard to beat,” Morata said.
“We were not at our best.”
