Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Leganes on Sunday afternoon moved Los Blancos – at least temporarily – further ahead at the top of the LaLiga table, while Alvaro Morata similarly moved clear at the top of the club’s goalscoring charts.
The 24-year-old started the weekend joint top, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, with seven strikes to his name so far.
Gareth Bale’s two first half goals then pulled the Welshman alongside his Spanish and Portuguese teammates, but Morata’s 77th minute finish past Jon Ander Serantes made him the outright leader.
He has now scored in three consecutive weekends, getting on the scoresheet against Athletic Club, Deportivo Alaves and now against Leganes – and was deservedly given an ovation by the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu crowd when substituted late on in Sunday’s match.
Breaking down his eight goals, he has scored four in the league, two in the Copa del Rey and two in the Champions League.
