Real Madrid defender Pepe was forced to leave the game between UD Alaves and Real Madrid during the first half and will be out “at least a week”, according to a report from Cadena COPE’s Miguel Angel Diaz. His injury isn’t serious but Madrid’s coaching staff will not rush his recovery and will be very careful.

This is bad news for coach Zinedine Zidane as Sergio Ramos is also unavailable with the knee injury he picked up on the last FIFA break.

Raphael Varane and Nacho Fernandez are the only central-defenders healthy and it looks like they’ll be the ones facing Legia Warsaw (away, Champions League) and Leganes (home, La Liga) this week.

Los Blancos should clearly have more than enough tools to win both matches even without their two starting central-defenders.

Luckily enough for Madrid, there’s yet another break after those two games and both Ramos and Pepe could recover in time for the upcoming Madrid derby against Atletico on November 19th.
