1. KEYLOR NAVAS 3.0
Had just one save to make, while he obviously wasn’t at fault for the penalty.
2. DANIEL CARVAJAL 3.0
Eager to get forward, but despite spending plenty of time high up the pitch he didn’t send a single cross into the box.
5. RAPHAEL VARANE 4.0
Determined play in the area to open the scoring. His athleticism proved vital in helping to contain Sporting on the break.
4. SERGIO RAMOS 4.0
Produced the only real moment of quality for Real Madrid in attack, picking out a delightful cross to tee up Benzema for the winner. Showed few signs of rust in defence.
12. MARCELO 3.0
Struggled at times with the pace of Gelson on the flank, but was otherwise sharp. Replaced after 70 minutes.
17. LUCAS VAZQUEZ 2.5
Really struggled to find space in the final third, failing to stamp his authority on the match.
19. LUKA MODRIC 3.5
His free-kick resulted in the opening goal. Distributed the ball as he proved their most creative outlet in attack.
16. MATEO KOVACIC 3.5
A typically committed showing in midfield, completing over 95 percent of his passes, a team high.
22. ISCO 3.0
Blanketed by William from the start and couldn’t escape his marking, as his creative influence was completely negated, before coming off for the final 20 minutes. Did well to keep possession, though.
11. GARETH BALE 2.5
Worked hard to find an opening but had little success in doing so, before being replaced with a knock shortly into the second half.
7. CRISTIANO RONALDO 2.5
Failed to muster a single shot on target in what was really frustrating night for him atop the Real Madrid attack.
20. MARCO ASENSIO 3.0
Played well after coming on to replace Gareth Bale, had some good runs.
9. KARIM BENZEMA 3.5
Headed home the winner, proving clinical in taking his only chance, something Ronaldo failed to do on the night.
15. FABIO COENTRAO 2.0
A dreadful handball saw him gift Sporting a penalty less than 10 minutes after coming on.
