Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane was unhappy at his side not holding their lead in Dortmund, but is satisfied with a point.
The defender had an eventful night upon his return to the starting line-up as he was involved with Borussia Dortmund’s first equalizer as the ball hit him in the face after Keylor Navas flapped at a free-kick, before restoring Madrid’s lead in the second half.
“I think a draw is a fair result for both sides,” Varane told UEFA.com after the match.
“They had possession and we hurt them on the counter. We lacked a bit of focus and energy at the end, but it’s not a bad result.
“I needed a game like that. I’m fine and the side is too. To lose two points at the end of the game never makes you happy, but we’re alright. We’ll carry on working and we will keep on giving the best of ourselves.
“Their first goal is a bit of bad luck because the ball hits me in the face. That’s football, these things happen and it’s not a mistake from Keylor Navas. It doesn’t matter, and you carry on playing.”
