Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has praised the performance of Cristiano Ronaldo following Madrid’s 4-1 win over Alavés at Mendizorrotza.
Ronaldo has been the subject of much scrutiny after recording just four goals in his opening nine matches, his worst start to a season since joining Los Blancos.
The 31-year-old responded in the best way possible by bagging a hat-trick against Alavés though, with Zidane hailing the forward’s on-field response.
“It is always better like this – that Cristiano scores, even better three,” he said.
“Today he has scored three goals. We always ask for goals from Cristiano, but he was doing very well in all aspects.
“For sure he will have another game when he doesn’t score, but he has patience.
“He showed today that with hard work he gets back to doing what he knows – scoring goals.”
Real Madrid’s win cements their spot atop the table, but Zidane has admitted the contest was not always one-way traffic.
“That is football…if you do not suffer, you cannot win La Liga,” he added.
“Today we knew how to suffer, against an opponent who made it difficult for us. But we kept calm heads, even through difficult moments, and that is normal in this league.”
“It can be tough for opponent to take, after what they did, but it was a deserved win for us.”
